Outrages Prices for Puppies and Why

Why a quality Yorkshire Terrier will cost you so much money.

The Yorkshire Terrier is a much highly desired, and sought after breed of canine and for many reasons. They are beautiful, charming, loyal, friendly, human like, trusting child like, out going and devoted to their champions, we humans. Whether canine, human or feline they live a long time. They have been bred for approximately 200 years from up to six different terriers that were in the 20 to 30 lbs range, so you might expect that genetically most of the kinks have not been worked out, making it easy for the uneducated breeders or pet owners who breeds their bitch to re-coop the money spent to purchase her, to produce poor Quality dog.

When one might consider that a truly devoted fancier, when deciding to produce a litter of pups, many factors take place. The biological capability of their bitch to get pregnant, availability of the stud dog, price, other factors in the breeders life, such as planned vacations, children, work load or any other complications that may coincide.

Flying the Bitch can cost 1000.00 plus the stud fee. Then while she expecting special foods, vet check ups at 50.00 a visit, X-rays for the Mom to be after 58 days to find out the position of the puppies and number of pups is $ 100.00. A progesterone test may become a necessity at some point if things appear not to be progressing normally, up to $3500.00 for a c-section is not unusual . Even using low numbers from these expenses can produce a litter of 1 to 2 pups. That costs easily $2000.00 to $3000.00, even if I use my own stud dog, and please under stand we can only use him 2 times a year on our own girls.

My Investment on my own male is $12.000 for my exceptional Parquin male, alone. Even if he is bred in house 2 times a year, for eight years, that is 16 breeding's which cost $250.00 or more each, not including feed, shelter, grooming ,vaccinations, provide his veterinary care. Its not CHEAP!

Then you have to factor in an occasional disaster (Which does happen) where you invest a fortune in a C-section and lose a whole litter and the mother. This scenario, happens enough to offset, the mother that free whelps a litter of 3 or 4 pups and they all survive with No complications.

NO! The Yorkshire Terrier is not a Cheap pet. Properly bred and reared and judiciously priced from a reputable responsible breeder, even if it costs $2500 its worth every penny. You will spend the same price for any pet (of same size) and if the Yorkshire Terrier lives 10 years, he has cost you a little over $200.00 a year for his purchase price. You can buy a dog out of the news paper, then immediately spend $1500 or more due to hypoglycemic episode that can cause death. $2000.00 for parvo, $4000.00 for liver shunt. Each month I slip deeper into my pocket. If you quantify the dog breeding game on a dollar basis you will invariably go in the Red. Still we must have the passion and LOVE, to truly immerse our selves. So, I continue to reach deeper in the ole pocket to continually invest into our breeding Program.

Good Luck in Your Search for that perfect Pet or Show Dog, there are many of us out there, Some are Magnificent  Breeders and some who claim to be, be careful, the Internet can be a Good Tool and it also can let some of the most cunning people convince you they are reputable, when in which they run Puppy Mills.

Remember all Yorkie puppies are cute and Adorable as pups. Remember the ole saying if it sounds too good to be true, then its TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE! and the other saying, NOTHING IN LIFE IS FREE.

Good Luck!!!! Remember, Purchase a Puppy of at least 12 weeks or more to insure good health.
